The Graciousness of God
God is so gracious to us that sometimes I am overwhelmed. If you have read my post from yesterday, you would have seen that Phil and I were very discouraged. But God in His great mercy, assured us that He is in control, He hears us, He loves us and He is concerned for us. He did this through an email. Romana had emailed the embassy to see what progress our I600 had made in the approval process. She forwarded us the response she received, which was an automated response saying that the officer handling our paperwork was on vacation until the 17th (crushing!) BUT followed by an email from the officer saying that he had approved our I600 before leaving for vacation and that it was at the appropriate office waiting for us. God is truly with us wherever we go...even to Africa. The harshest realization and the sadess one to us is that, even though we think we are completely sold out to God and not sucked up into this world, this trip has shown us that we are indeed spoiled Americans. I hate the thought of that, but it has broken down our pride and our thinking that we were somehow above all that...we obviously are not. So even though it IS painful, I am grateful that God loves me enough to show me just how much more I need to change to become who I was created to be. God is so full of mercy and kindness that even when I am crying and feeling sorry for myself, He gently disciplines me. He is so good.

I am sorry about the difficulty you two have had -been there myself and I know that when you are in the throws of it and at the mercy of others, it can be pretty nerve-wracking. Ghana isn't easy, but for you, it is only very temporary. Travel allows one to see how truly blessed we are here in America. This will all be memory soon. So hang in there and lean on HIM to get you through it.

I'm just catching up on all the new posts--crying at Amanda's description of meeting your (!) kids and laughing at Phil's post, of course.
It's so good to know that what you're experiencing now will be so worth it in the end. I'm so proud of both of you and what you are doing for these kids who will be so blessed to have terrific parents like the two of you.
Isn't it amazing how God can show us reproof at the same time allowing us to be blessed! He is such an amazing God and we feel so honored to witness this journey of yours. Love you.
So glad that through all the bad things of yesterday, that there was really good news! We will continue to pray God's favor be on you all! That God will direct the right people, in the right places, and at the right time to be at your side! We love you!
Just read your last 2 posts. I laughed, I cried! Our God is amazing, isn't he? You said it so eloquently...his faithfulness, patience and gentle discipline of those He loves. We are rejoicing with you as we see evidence all around of His working behind the scenes on your behalf. Prais His name!
I don't know but what there might be a book in the making at the end of this journey!

i guess i'm a chip off my ol' sappy block...my dad just gave me your blog and said he'd laughed and cried over it...i wondered what was wrong with him, but after reading it i'm hoping my keyboard doesn't fry from my tears. although it's easy to say from the comfort of here, i think your time there is so valuable in your understanding of their culture, heritage and development to now. i bet with time you'll remember the thrills, excitement and emotions and forget the stress and hurdles. consider this bootcamp. I'm sure Phil 4:13 has come to mind.
